Closed on Sunday, and the Monday closures that catch people
Four stops on the common lists close on Sunday. Willett is closed to the public on Sundays. Old Forester and Rabbit Hole in downtown Louisville are both closed Sunday and Monday. The Lux Row visitor center in Bardstown is closed Sunday and Monday.
Monday and Tuesday catch more groups than Sunday does. Castle and Key is closed Monday and Tuesday. Bardstown Bourbon Company runs no tours on Monday or Tuesday, and its visitor center keeps short hours, 10 to 3, on those days. Woodford Reserve opens seven days a week from March to December, but only Thursday to Monday in January and February.
Holidays close the rest. Buffalo Trace and James B. Beam both close on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Holiday dates on our tours are subject to distillery availability.
How we route a Sunday tour
Frankfort and Versailles is the strongest Sunday cluster. Buffalo Trace opens at 11, and the Woodford Reserve gift shop opens at noon, so a Sunday there holds three stops with a box lunch, or two with a sit-down lunch. If Buffalo Trace matters to you, the 10-week booking rule still applies on a Sunday.
Bardstown works on a Sunday if you sequence it. James B. Beam opens at 9, so it goes first. Bardstown Bourbon Company runs all day. Heaven Hill opens at 1, so it goes after lunch. Willett is out. Lawrenceburg is afternoon only: Four Roses and Wild Turkey both open at noon and close at 4, which fits a two-stop Sunday afternoon and nothing more.
Downtown Louisville is the weakest Sunday. Old Forester and Rabbit Hole are closed, and Angel's Envy's shop opens at 12:30. We move a Louisville group out to Clermont or Frankfort for a Sunday and save the city stops for another day. Lunch is booked between stops one and two or two and three, and the meal goes on your tab. Our one-day bourbon tour guide covers the weekday version of each cluster.
