On the Versailles side: The Stave sits between Woodford Reserve and Castle and Key and is the popular pick, with one caveat from experience: it packs out on weekends and service runs slow, so we favor it on weekday tours (note: The Stave is closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Wallace Station is the longtime Versailles-area deli, about 15 minutes from Woodford Reserve or Castle and Key.

On the Frankfort side: Staxx BBQ is fast, good, and inexpensive. The Brown Barrel is the sit-down pick. When the day includes Buffalo Trace, the restaurant on the Buffalo Trace property is the efficient choice: no extra stop between the tour and the table.

Keeneland race meets run twice per year in Lexington: a Spring meet from early April to late April and a Fall meet from early October to late October. Race days reshape Lexington logistics significantly.

What changes during Keeneland meets:

• Lexington hotel pricing spikes 2-4x for race days. Book 4-6 months ahead minimum.
• Restaurant reservations become competitive across downtown Lexington and Versailles.
• Tour scheduling needs to account for race start times if the group has Keeneland tickets.

What does not change: Keeneland sits far enough from the distilleries that race traffic has no effect on distillery routing. The Versailles cluster runs normally throughout race meets.

What we do differently for Keeneland-week tours:

We coordinate distillery routing around race day schedules. On race days we book afternoon distillery slots where we can: the crowd pattern runs tours in the morning and races in the afternoon, so afternoon distillery slots are quieter. Post times typically fall between 1:00 and 6:30 PM, which leaves room for one or two morning distillery tours before the races for groups holding Keeneland tickets. If your group is in town for two days, our standing recommendation is to give racing and bourbon separate days rather than compressing both into one. The Wednesday and Thursday race days are less busy and easier to work into a tour day than the weekend cards.

We pick up directly from Blue Grass Airport (LEX). LEX is 10 minutes from downtown Lexington and handles regional and connecting flights from major hubs. Most fly-in tours start at LEX with airport pickup, then route directly to the first distillery.

What is not included: gratuity for your guide (appreciated but not required), gift shop purchases at distilleries, optional private barrel pick experiences at participating distilleries.
